The Northern Ontario Music Festival experience is special for music students and community performers. Here's why:

  • Since 1977 the focus at the Sudbury NOMFestival has been on ensembles and community.

  • It's a great chance for students to see and hear what's going on at other schools and get meaningful feedback from experts in the music education field.

  • Students will feel what it's like to perform on a large stage in a state-of-the-art auditorium.

  • They have the benefit of feedback from two adjudicators for each performance, followed by an on-stage workshop.

  • One adjudicator will do a play-by-play voice-over recording during the performance, which can be reviewed later. The other adjudicator will write comments to be used in the workshop following the performance.

  • All performances are video recorded, so that directors may enjoy them with their students later.

  • We encourage all ensembles to make a day of it, so that they can see other performances before and after their own. It is very exciting and inspiring for students to see what is happening in other groups, especially the groups that are at a level beyond their own.

  • It's a great chance for Ensemble directors to hear exciting repertoire that they may not have discovered before.

  • The NOMFest is a qualifying Regional Festival so depending on their proficiency level, ensembles may qualify for an invitation to the National festival, MusicFest Canada.

  • Each MusicFest invitation is good for 2 years, so even if they decide not to go this year, it can be really energizing to your program for kids, parents and school administrators to know that they have qualified.

  • The Sudbury NOMFestival is the most affordable Regional Festival of its kind in Ontario. Some Affiliated festivals charge up to $380 per group.

  • Our adjudicators represent a healthy mix of local expertise as well as professionals from outside of the Sudbury region. This provides excellent enrichment for all participants.

  • If you're not quite ready to enter the Sudbury NOMFestival as a participant this year, you can always make it a field trip. Bring your students to either perform for adjudication (no ranking) or to watch and listen in the comfortable F.W. Sheridan Auditorium. The general admission fee is just $5 per person for a full day.

  • But of course we'd rather hear your group play, and if you're bringing 40 or more students, the entry fee amounts to less than $5 per performer.

  • See you at the Festival!
